My idea saved me this winter. We had such a LONG winter. I was having a hard time getting the boys off the IPads one day. {I have such a LOVE-HATE with these IPads!} I also noticed we were definitely not reading enough so I invented....drum roll please....D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) home edition.

Here is a quick overview you can pin so you remember...

We set our timer for 30 minutes. When it went off, everyone had to read for AT LEAST 5 minutes. My boys are 7 and almost 3 so I thought this would be attainable. IT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS! We reset the timer at least 5 times and read for way more than 5 minutes each time. Sometimes we would read alone, sometimes together. I did not specify what they had to read, they just had to read. I also made sure I was reading. {It was probably hardest for me to drop everything, but I did}

It made for a really fun morning. I recommend it for a rainy summer day. It is not something I would do everyday it will loose its effectiveness, but we are going to try to do it one morning or evening a week. A great way to get some reading in this summer!
