Look at this great activity!  I don't know about you, but I am always looking for ways to incorporate more non-fiction texts into my classroom.   This Literacy Center is an excellent way to do just that!  I used this activity last week with my second graders.  I have three boys in this group that I knew would love to read about snakes and scorpions, and they did!  First I printed out three copies of each.                                                    

Then I put them into plastic sleeves and connected them together with brads...

There are three copies in each sleeve so I have one for each boy.  Then I had multiple copies of the recording sheet.  First we did the snake one together.  We read it together, and answered the questions together.  I didn't have one complaint either about having to write.  There is just enough space, and just enough writing that they enjoyed it.

Then we went onto the Gopher and read it together, but I had them do the questions on their own.  They wanted to do the rest of them on there own and kept comparing which animal lived the longest and what each ate.  They were totally engaged!

So, they worked away....

 and even did the three facts at the end without any prompting!

I was impressed!
