Do you have students that just do not like to read?
Is it a struuuuuugle to get them to read?I'm talking about those ones that will do ANYTHING to avoid reading.
They go to the bathroom.
They sit and pretend to read.
They need to go to the nurse because they have an almost invisible scratch that needs a bandaid.
You know the one, or two or five or twenty.
You are not alone!
As a reading specialist that does interventions ALL DAY LONG, I have been faced with my fair share of students like this.
I found along with good reading instruction, I also needed to find a motivation for them to:
#1 actually come to my reading group, and
#2 actually READ when they are there.
I finally found the answer!
I found a way to create effective intervention lessons that are fun and engaging. Students will BEG their teachers to come see you!
You can do this to, starting with this FREE phonics mini game. I strategically place it at the end of my phonics lesson so they are engaged and focused during the entire lesson so they have time to play the game.

That's right.
My motivation for good behavior in my reading intervention groups is....
wait for it....
READING!
AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (that is my wicked evil laugh)
My students beg to read, and yours can too.
Not sold on the idea of games in you intervention lesson yet? Just at least try this freebie out...
